Teacher Setup

Teacher mode is built around teaching allocations: what you teach, who you teach, where it happens, and when it appears on the timetable.

  1. Add subjects first.Create the subjects you teach, with clear names, colors, icons, notes, and an optional default room.
  2. Add lessons next.Each lesson combines a subject with a day, time, repeat pattern, optional class group, and optional room.
  3. Save reusable groups only when helpful.You can type a one-off class group directly on a lesson, or save the group for reuse across future lessons.
  4. Review the timetable.Check group names, rooms, repeating weeks, clashes, cover lessons, holidays, and reminder behavior before relying on widgets or notifications.

No required class-group step

Teacher setup does not require a separate class-group pass. Add subjects and lessons first. Use saved groups and room reuse when they reduce repeated typing.

How teachers use the app

Use Subjects for what you teach. A subject should describe the course or lesson type, such as Maths, Biology, English, Year 8 Science, or Cover.

Use class groups for who you teach. A class group can be saved for reuse, but lessons can also keep a free-text group name for one-off timetable entries.

Use rooms as lightweight text. A lesson can store its own room, a subject can provide a default room, and a saved teaching group can suggest a default room for later lessons.

Use lessons as the main allocation. A lesson is the place where subject, group, room, day, time, repeat rule, reminders, and notes come together.

Use cover lessons for temporary or substitute teaching. Cover lessons appear on the timetable as typed events, can override overlapping normal lessons when prioritised, and stay separate from normal subject setup.

Groups and rooms

Saved class groups live in the teacher-only Groups & Rooms area, not inside individual subjects. Use it when you want to reuse the same group name, color, or default room across multiple lessons.

You can still type a group or room directly on a lesson without saving it. This is useful for one-off teaching, temporary room moves, short rotations, or classes that do not need long-term reuse.

Cover lessons

Add a cover lesson when you are temporarily teaching a group for another teacher.

  1. Open the timetable add options.
  2. Choose the cover or substitute lesson option.
  3. Enter the subject, optional class group, room, covered teacher, time, and notes.
  4. Leave prioritise enabled if the cover lesson should override a normal lesson at the same time.
  5. Save the cover lesson.

Cover lessons use the same timetable, sync, backup, widget, Watch, notification, and daily-summary pipeline as other timetable items.

What to check after setup

  • The same subject can appear for multiple class groups.
  • Each lesson has the right room, or falls back to the subject or group default room.
  • One-off group names are only saved when you want to reuse them.
  • Cover lessons show the covered teacher, room, group, and notes.
  • JSON export/import and iCloud Sync include subjects, saved groups, lessons, and cover lessons.
